Chapter 32

Blood Tie

They stood outside of Reilly’s residence not knowing what to say. Everything had changed within a few hours, and Saphira couldn’t decide if it was good or bad. She was still in shock knowing she would be staying in a royal household. But the fact that her pendant was now gone made her feel exposed, for the lack of a better word. That pendant was the only connection she had to her mother, and it was stolen whilst she slept.

Reilly put the suitcase down and went to open the door but it opened before he could touch it. He watched his parents approach and, for once, he couldn’t read their faces. It made apprehension flood his every nerve. He watched his father collect the suitcase as his mother went to Saphira. His jaw almost dropped when he saw her lovingly embrace Saphira. Did they know why Saphira needed to leave Killarney?

“Come inside, Saphira. I’ll show you to your room. As for you, Reilly, you are going to collect Lilith and make haste.”

“Why?”

“Reilly, the pendant Saphira donned has been stolen. It must be found and Lilith is the best person to perform a location enchantment. Now, no more talk. Go.”

Now he did fail to stop his jaw dropping. His mother may be a princess but she rarely made such demands in such an intimidating tone. While others would be quaking in their boots when she spoke in that tone, Reilly just looked at her in surprise.

Wow!

Reilly turned and went to collect Lilith on foot for using magic to transport everywhere became a bad habit for many. The sound of the gravel crunching beneath his feet was calming, but it did little to stop his mind from wandering.

Saphira would be living in his home for a time they did not know. Thoughts involving Saphira’s presence flooded his mind. Would he be granted the chance to watch her brush her hair and apply her makeup? Would he be able to show her affection whilst they were at home? To him, those were intimate thoughts for it would be something only he would end up experiencing every day when others wouldn’t.

Reilly couldn’t forget what they shared in her room. It was something he always wanted but the way Saphira pulled away made that wish seem impossible to grant.

But watching her practically run out of Taeral and Mirrin’s home took them all by surprise. However, only he knew the truth as to why. He only wanted to hold her to give her the comfort she needed, but he ended up kissing her. Reilly frowned at himself - he needed to find a way of controlling his impulses when Saphira simply needed comforting.

Reilly didn’t notice how far he had walked whilst his mind wandered for he now stood in the street leading to Lilith’s store and residence. However, he noticed she was waiting outside - did everyone send messages he didn’t know of? If so, he found it incredibly annoying.

“How is she?”

“She’s feeling a little lost.
